Curious is an original 2026 sculpture by New Zealand artist John Allen, made from pōhutukawa roots reclaimed from fallen trees in the Auckland region.
Curious is a one-of-a-kind sculptural piece that captures the unmistakable spirit of a dog: alert, inquisitive, happy and poised for whatever mischief comes next.
The natural grain, contours and character of the pōhutukawa roots remain central to the finished work. An oil-and-wax finish enriches the timber’s colour and grain while preserving its distinctly organic presence.
