Essence 14 (2025) – Handcrafted Native Wood & Copper Sculpture
Essence 14 (2025) is a one-of-a-kind sculptural work that makes a striking and meaningful gift. Handcrafted from pōhutukawa roots salvaged from fallen trees in McKenzie Cove, Northland, and subtly bound with copper wire, this piece explores themes of connection, repair, and endurance.
The natural movement of the roots is gently held by copper, creating a visual tension between organic form and human intervention. Finished with natural oil and wax, the surface reveals the rich grain and warmth of pōhutukawa while allowing the copper detail to sit in quiet contrast.
As a gift, Essence 14 offers a lasting alternative to the fleeting—an artwork made from reclaimed New Zealand native materials that symbolizes care, strength, and the beauty of connection over time. Each sculpture is entirely unique, making it a deeply personal expression of love.
