Pohutukawa Movement — 2020
A Pohutukawa root, freed from the earth and suspended in light. Pohutukawa Movement takes a fragment of Northland timber and presents it as it has rarely been seen — floating on glass, caught between wall and air, casting a quiet glow into the room behind it.
The root is finished in oil and acrylic paint, then mounted on the front of non-reflective glass with no backing board. The coloured reverse side reflects subtle light off the wall, giving the piece a living quality that shifts with the time of day. Framed and ready to hang.
